Sainz and Munnings Unveil the Pioneer 25
Last week, our dynamic duo, Carlos Sainz, and Catie Munnings, descended upon London to unveil the Pioneer 25 race car. This futuristic beast is a 550-horsepower powerhouse designed to keep both male and female drivers on equal footing. Yes, you read that right – Extreme H is all about leveling the playing field, one hydrogen molecule at a time.
Carlos Sainz: The Legend Continues The Spanish legend, Carlos Sainz, isn’t new to breaking barriers. After making history by winning the Dakar Rally in a hybrid-powered car, Sainz now feels “an obligation to make motorsport more sustainable.” Founder of the Extreme E’s ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team, Sainz is ready to swap diesel fumes for hydrogen gas and lead the charge into a cleaner, greener racing future.
Catie Munnings: The Rising Star On the other side of the gender-balanced grid is British dynamo, Catie Munnings. This breakout star of the Extreme E Championship has already made waves with podium finishes from Saudi Arabia to Greenland. Now, with the unpredictable nature of Extreme H, Munnings is ready to showcase her skills against the best of the best. “The car is a wider and bigger machine than we’re used to. It’s a pure test of your skill as a driver,” she said, practically bouncing with excitement.
The Pioneer 25: Racing into the Future
The big reveal took place on the St Helena ship, moored on the River Thames. The Pioneer 25, decked out in Red Bull livery, promises to bring wheel-to-wheel action to three continents over a 10-round season starting next year. With a lineup of top-tier drivers from both genders, the series aims to push the limits of technology and skill in motorsport.
Sainz’s Perspective Sainz is all in, saying, “Motorsport is my passion and I’m willing to give everything to this sport. I want to be part of a competitive series and to push the limits of Extreme H’s hydrogen-powered car.” He’s not just talking the talk; he’s revving up to walk the walk – or should we say, race the race?
Munnings’ Enthusiasm Meanwhile, Munnings is captivated by the vision driving Extreme H. “The championship has its own spontaneity and every race is different,” she said. With improvements in suspension and a promise of tougher conditions, Munnings is gearing up for the ultimate test of her driving prowess.

Gender Equality in the Fast Lane
One of the most thrilling aspects of Extreme H is its commitment to gender equality. “This is the championship that gives female drivers the opportunity to compete at the same level as male drivers,” emphasized Sainz. It’s not just about being green; it’s about being fair and giving everyone a chance to burn rubber on the same track.
What’s Next for Extreme H?
The racing calendar has already set hearts racing, with events planned across Saudi Arabia, Germany, Italy, the UK, and the USA. While exact dates and team rosters are still under wraps, anticipation is building for the first public test of the Pioneer 25 at Extreme E’s Hydro X Prix in Scotland this July.
Sainz summed it up best: “We want to create a sustainable future for motorsport and this is a clear example of how we can achieve it. The challenge is a tough one but I have total confidence in everybody involved.”
With the engines of the future roaring to life, Sainz and Munnings are ready to drive Extreme H into history. So, strap in and get ready for a hydrogen-powered ride – because the future of racing is here, and it’s anything but ordinary.
